Effect of embryonic light exposure on laterality and sociality in quail chicks (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

چکیده
Lateralization is the ascendency of one side body or brain to control and perform motor perceptual functions. Light exposure during prenatal life can modulate expression visual lateralization (strength direction) in a variety species, including birds. Individual provides cognitive advantages, but function at population level less obvious. Recent studies support hypothesis that intra-specific population-level may favour coordination between asymmetrical individuals synergistic (cooperative) social interactions. Since cohesion requires good coordination, therefore imagine higher alignment within group, by making easier, promote cohesion. Our study investigated effect light on laterality behaviour Japanese quail chicks (Coturnix coturnix japonica). We compared coming from eggs exposed incubation maintained complete darkness. expected light-exposed (LE) be more aligned than dark-incubated (DI) ones we wanted test whether most were also coordinated. assessed laterality, motivation, synchronization spatial groups LE DI chicks. The conditions did not affect either chicks’ behaviour, there was no turning bias group level. An absolute index characterizing living together showed with highest indices necessarily greatest This suggests does consistently induce influence their Quails are widely used farm industry scientific research better knowledge consequences behavioural asymmetries sociality could help improve handling welfare.

Mate-choice copying in Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica
We performed four experiments to examine effects on the mate choices of female Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica, of observing a male mate with another female. Each experiment was conducted in three phases: (1) a pre-test during which subject females were allowed to choose between two males with which to affiliate; (2) an observation phase, in which subject females either watched or di...

Cross-sectional study of quail eggs was conducted to evaluate the nutritional compositions of carbohydrate, fat, protein, calories, vitamin, minerals and sex hormones. The results showed that average of each whole quail egg weight was 10.67 g. Their contents of ash, carbohydrate, fat, protein and moisture were 1.06, 4.01, 9.89, 12.7 and 72.25 g 100g -1 , respectively. Total energy in calories o...

An experiment was conducted to study the eff ect of phytase enzyme (Natuphos 500) supplementation in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) (3 to 45 days of age) on body weight, carcass performance, percentage of tibia bone ash and tibia phosphorus. Data were analyzed as a completely randomized design arranged with fi ve levels (150, 300, 600, 1200 and 2400 FTU/Kg) of phytase enzyme as treatments 1...
متن کاملPerceptual compensation for coarticulation by Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica).
When members of a series of synthesized stop consonants varying in third-formant (F3) characteristics and varying perceptually from /da/ to /ga/ are preceded by /al/, human listeners report hearing more /ga/ syllables than when the members of the series are preceded by /ar/. It has been suggested that this shift in identification is the result of specialized processes that compensate for acoust...
متن کاملEffect of feeding time on the reproductive performance of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica).
Several feeding regimens are applied to improve performance of fertile egg production during times of heat stress. During a period of heat stress (34 to 36 degrees C), two feeding periods were used to measure the impact of feeding time on reproductive performance of Japanese quail (Coturnix cotunix japonica) between 44 and 60 wk of age. Each feeding time treatment had 25 individually caged male...
